Charities HSR Benefits

We ended up raising over $2,200 for each of our three charities, Engineers Without Borders, Morlove, and Soles4Souls. We also recieved over 500 shoe donations for Soles4Soles. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our cause!

Even though the Hillsborough Street Renaissance has evolved into much more than it originally set out to be, it still will serve its original purpose, to raise money for charities that benefit both local and international communities. The charities benefitting from Hillsborough Street Renaissance are:

Engineers Without Borders - NCSU Chapter
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) partners students and professional engineers, architects and business people to benefit communities in need of clean water, renewable energy and basic education. The NCSU Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-NCSU) is presently building a solar-wind hybrid power system to donate to a school in Western Carolina. The system will be able to power portable electronic devices, such as cell-phones and laptops, and will be used primarily as a teaching aid. EWB-NCSU is also working on a water sanitation project in Asanqiri, Bolivia, as well as, a water sanitation and a renewable energy project in Freetown, Sierra Leone. EWB-NCSU has tutored students at local Raleigh high schools in the past and will continue to mentor local students in the areas of math and science.

MorLove
MorLove is a student non-profit organization. We recycle textile material. We make items ranging from clothes to home goods to accessories, and we sell these items to raise money for the Amani Baby Cottage. It is an orphanage in Jinji, Uganda. It houses about 60 children. We also ship containers to different schools around the world. In 2007, we shipped a 7 ton container to Madagascar. It contained clothes shoes, and an entire school curriculum from K-12.
