Bands

We've been talking to the top local and regional bands to bring you live music all day long. Why? Because a festival for Hillsborough Street deserves only the best in the business! Did we mention entrance is free?

Take a look at a few of the bands that will be performing:

Murphy's Kids - Reggae / Rock
Murphys Kids live to rock. Tastefully mixing deep reggae grooves with intense progressive rock, Murphy's Kids is here to enlist fun-loving, honest people to stand up, get down and leave it all on the dance floor. Complimented by socially charged lyrics and anthemic melodies, Murphy's Kids bring an energetic and interactive live show without parallel. For the last eight years Murphy's Kids has been spreading a message of peace and love widely across the eastern half of the United States.

Inflowential - Hip Hop / Soul / Funk
Boasting resounding lyrics, supreme originality and an unforgettable sound, Up-and Coming Hip Hop group Inflowential is definitely worth noting. Taking form in the spring of 2003 at NC State University, the group is composed of 2 MC's, a Bassist, a Guitarist, and a Beatbox extraordinaire in lieu of a drummer: Tab-One, Charlie Smarts, Bender, Kyle, and A-did, respectively. Even though it is hard to believe, all of the percussion parts are done by A-did vocally through a mic. They don't use a drum machine or a looped beat of any kind.

Brooks Wood Band - Rock / Acoustic / Pop
This young four-piece has widespread influences that touch on everything from jazzy rhythms, punk rock progressions, and moments of classical flair, to vocals that pay homage to an infusion of Matchbox Twenty harmonies and a soul-choked lead a la Marc Broussard. Having shared the stage with some of the modern day greats (Edwin McCain, John Mayer, Cartel, Carbon Leaf, Will Hoge, and many more), they know well the recipe for a live show thriving on energy and crowd interaction. It's this atmosphere of musical energy created during each performance that repeatedly leaves audiences yearning for more. Although the Brooks Wood Band members have recently reached the decision to disband, as band members are moving all across the U.S to go their separate ways, they have agreed to come together to play for the Hillsborough Street Renaissance. Whether captivating small clubs or thundering crowds of thousands, Brooks Wood Band is one of the most promising acts you may yet to have heard and would certainly regret passing up.

Wrecking Season - Alt Rock
Wrecking Season is an alternative rock band that produces an eclectic mix of musical ideas in one diverse package. The Band was formed in 2005 and has a full set of their own songs written and a demo recorded, entitled "Dark Days in March." They have experienced great success so far from their gigs and have received lots of positive feedback from everyone who has seen them. Wrecking Season delivers hard edged 21st century songs to take you beyond your present reality and into a new dimension.

Zegg - Jazz / Rock / Funk / Reggae / Bluegrass
Zegg is a band made up of four musicians from Raleigh, NC who came together is 2004. Their music is a mix of jazz, rock, funk, reggae, and bluegrass with influences from Bob Marley, John Mayer, The Talking Heads, and many others. Mike Gloss plays acoustic and electric guitar with an inventive, quirky style. Bongo John, the percussist and drummer, plays with as much soul as metronome precission; He and Shane Bullis, a bottomless bass player, hold down the rhythm with their groove-in-the-pocket styles. Chris Johnsons blistering and soulful keyboard work and great vocal abilities perfectly round out the quartet.

Milagro Saints - Folk / Rock / Contemporary
Milagro Saints is a folk-rock band from Raleigh, NC that mixes old with new, traditional with contemporary. Milagro Saints have created a vibrant but also mellow and expressive sound; layering fiddle onto organ, blending electric with acoustic guitars, carefully slotting in soaring lap steel and crying slide guitars, harmonica, clarinet, didjeridoo and much more. Some of their influences include Grateful Dead, The Byrds, and Neil Young.

The High and Mighties - Reggae / Rock
The High and Mighties is a reggae influenced rock band from Chapel Hill, NC composed of players from various groups and ensembles that have been performing in the southeast for the last decade. They strive to create an atmosphere where we all celebrate the experience of the human situation. The inspiration for their material comes from friends, family and their own bands' history. With the sweet overshadowing bitter, their music deals with life, relationships and the pursuit of ever eluding happiness.
